Nothing. Try throwing in an egg shell. It will settle the grounds to the bottom. Some use the egg crack it in the grounds and throw in the shell and all. You may also after brewing dump in a bit of cold water to help settle the grounds. A coffee press or espresso maker works well camping too.

I love the taste of boiled coffee over an open fire. We use one of those blue spotted porcelain pots without the basket. Just put in one scoop of grounds per cup and set on the fire. After water boils 5 minutes move aside to settle. Pour coffee through a fine strainer into cup and Enjoy.

Use a coffee bag, like a tea bag coffee also comes in pouches that you just put in the pot and boil. The real key to making a great cup of joe is to not over boil it and even burning it. Even though there is water in the pot cooking coffee to hot or to long will make it taste bitter and burnt.

Also try adding a bit of orange peel for a little bit of fruity taste and smoother aroma.

another trick, use instant coffee no fuss no muss as strong or as weak as you or your fellow campers may like.

You should try a french press. That’s what we use and needs no electricity.

from Wikpedia: Coffee may also be brewed by steeping in a device such as a French press (also known as a cafetière or coffee press). Ground coffee and hot water are combined in a coffee press and left to brew for a few minutes. A plunger is then depressed to separate the coffee grounds, which remain at the bottom of the container. Because the coffee grounds are in direct contact with the water, all the coffee oils remain in the beverage, making it stronger.”

They sell them at ikea for about 12 bucks. All you do is heat your water and pour it into the pot. The grounds are already in there. You let it sit for a few minutes and then plunge it which leaves all the grounds on the bottom. YUMMY!!

Good grief its camping not a night at the Fancy Motel 6

Just dont drink the last two swallows of coffee in your cup and you wont have to worry about sucking down grounds.
